Le machaon (Papilio machaon) est un de nos plus grand et plus beau papillon. Suivant les années, on le voit plus ou moins fréquemment mais la plupart du temps il se fait appeler désiré.
Les adultes sont visibles de mars à septembre. Il a de 1 à 3 générations dans l'année en fonction de la situation géographique. On le trouve dans les prairies riches en ombellifères, plantes hôtes de la chenille.
Il hiverne au stade chrysalide mais il serait possible que certains adultes réussissent à passer l'hiver.
The old world swallowtail (Papilio machaon) is one of our biggest and most beautiful butterfly. According to years, we see it more or less frequently but most of the time it is called Désiré.
The adults are visible from March till September. It has from 1 to 3 generations in the year according to the geographical situation. We find it in meadows rich in umbelliferae, hosts plants of the caterpillar.
It winters at the chrysalis stage chrysalis but it would be possible that certain adults manage to spend the winter.
