Mouche du fumier * Yellow dung fly

La scathophage du fumier (Scathophaga stercoraria) est, je trouve, une bien jolie mouche même si ces moeurs sont originales.

On les trouve fréquemment sur les bouses fraiches dans lesquelles elles pondent. Les larves s'y développent en mangeant les larves d'autres insectes coprophages.

The yellow dung fly (Scathophaga stercoraria) is, for me, a very attractive fly even if its customs are original.
We find them frequently on the fresh dungs in which they lay. Larvas develop there by eating the larvas of the other coprophagous insects.

Toison d'or * Golden fleece

Depuis quelques temps un petit insecte doré attirait mon regard matin et soir lors de notre promenade canine ...

J'y suis donc allée un soir avec l'appareil pour un faire un portrait. 

Il s'agit d'un mâle de mouche à merde du fumier (Scathophaga stecoraria) dont la toison d'or capte si bien le regard.

Notez les antennes totalement noires et les palpes blancs caractéristiques de l'espèce.

For some time, a small golden insect caught my eye in the morning and evening during our canine walk...

I thus went there one evening with the camera.

It is a male of the golden dung fly (Scathophaga stecoraria) whose golden fleece gets so well the look.

Note the totally black antennas and white labium characteristic of the species.
