Renouée * Lady's thumb

 

Cette "renouée" (Persicaria sp) me pose un problème d'identification. Pas toujours facile d'après photo et après coup d'identifier plantes ou insectes. Je pense avoir là la renouée persicaire (Persicaria maculosa). Les épis floraux érigés, les feuilles avec un court pétiole sont ce qui me fait penser à elle. On devrait avoir des ochréas avec des cils mais j'ai beau agrandir mes photos à part un ochrea à cils, les autres n'en présentent pas. Renouée fait allusion à la tige qui présente des noeuds renflés où s'implantent les feuilles. Persicaire fait allusion cette fois à la feuille qui ressemble à celle du pêcher.

Les "persicaires" sont pour la plupart consommables (feuilles et jeunes pousses) si l'on est sûr de l'identification. Riche en tanin elles ont été utilisées en plantes médicinales aux propriétés astringentes et vulnéraires.

This knotweed (Persicaria sp) gives an identification problem. Not always easy from photos and afterwards identifying plants or insects. I think I have the smartweed there (Persicaria maculosa). The erect flower spikes, the leaves with a short petiole are what reminds me of her. We should have ochreas with eyelashes but I may enlarge my photos except for one eyelashed ochrea, the others aren't. Knotweed refers to the stem which has swollen knots where the leaves are implanted. Persicaria refers this time to the leaf which resembles that of the peach tree.

Persicaria are mostly consumable (leaves and young shoots) if you are sure of the identification . Rich in tannin they have been used in medicinal plants with astringent and vulnerable properties

Faux liseron * Wild buckwheat

La renouée faux liseron (Fallopia convolvulus) est une plante à tige rampante (ou grimpante si elle trouve un support). Les feuilles en forme de coeur rappelle le liseron mais ses fleurs sont plus typique de la renouée d'où son nom. Ses graines noires rappellent un peu celles du sarrasin. Elle est très tolérante au niveau des sols et supporte très bien la sécheresse. 

  

The wild buckwheat (Fallopia convolvulus) is a creeping plant (or climbing if it finds a support). The heart-shaped leaves are reminiscent of bindweed but its flowers are more typical of knotweed hence its name. Its black seeds are a bit like those of buckwheat. It is very tolerant of soil and tolerates drought very well.

Blé noir * Buckwheat

Malgré son nom commun de blé noir, le sarrasin (Fagopyrum esculentum) n'a rien à voir avec le blé (Triticum sp)

In spite of its common noun of buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) it has nothing to do with the wheat (Tricium sp)

 

Ce n'est pas une graminée (Poaceae), il ne contient pas de gluten et a donc été pendant un temps un substitut pour les personnes "allergiques" à ce dernier. Néanmoins, depuis 2012 il est classé dans les aliments à risque d'anaphylaxie sévère

It is not a grass (Poaceae), it doesn't contain gluten and was thus during a time a substitute for the people "allergic" to the latter. Nevertheless, since 2012 it is classified in food at risk of severe anaphylaxia.

Il reste toutefois fort intéressant en alimentation car il est riche en protéines et contient tous les acides aminés.

It remains however very interesting in food supply because it is rich in proteins and contains all the amino acids.

 

Depuis quelques années on lui a trouvé une autre utilité: son fort pouvoir couvrant en fait un bon piège à nitrate entre deux cultures et, il a en plus, la particularité de rendre disponible aux cultures suivantes certaines formes de phosphore. C'est l'agriculture de conservation.

Since a few years we found it another utility: its strong covering power is a good trap for nitrate between two cultures and, it has moreover, the peculiarity to make available for following cultures certain forms of phosphor. It is the agriculture of preservation.

 

Engrais vert, bon aliment, mellifère, cette plante peut faire le joli-coeur ;)

Green manure, good food, melliferous, this plant can make the Joli-Coeur ;)
