Les Empis sont des diptères prédateurs d'autres "mouches" (voir moustiques). Ils sont facilement reconnaissables à leur tête ronde aux yeux rougeâtres et leur trompe si caractéristique. Cette trompe leur sert à transpercer le corps de leur proie mais aussi à se repaître de nectar.
Empis is predatory dipterans of the other "flies" (see mosquitoes). They are easily recognizable in the round head with the reddish eyes and their trunk so characteristic. They use this trunk proboscis to pierce the body of their prey but also to delight in nectar.
J'ai modifié l'orientation de cette photo car cela permettait de mieux voir cet original insecte.
L'abdomen pointu nous indique que nous avons là un Empis tessellata ♀
