Cardinal

Le cardinal est un insecte rouge comme son nom l'indique mais, je devrai dire les cardinaux car il y a deux espèces. Celui que l'on appelle tout simplement cardinal (Pyrochroa coccinea) et, le cardinal à tête rouge (Pyrochroa serraticornis). En fait, pour les différencier, on pourrait tout simplement dire le cardinal à tête rouge (Pyrochroa serraticornis) et le cardinal à tête noire (Pyrochroa coccinea) car, c'est certainement la première différence que vous verrez.

The cardinal beetle is a red insect as his name indicates but, I should have say the cardinals because there are two sorts. Chez l'un comme chez l'autre, les antennes du mâle sont fortement pectinées et simplement dentées chez les femelles.

Les adultes se nourrissent de sève ou de nectar. Les oeufs sont déposés dans des arbres en putréfaction. Les larves se nourrissent d'insectes et de larves capturées entre l'écorce et le bois .... Chose remarquable, l'état larvaire est très long Il dure entre 2 et 3 ans.
